Tóm tắt

Canna edulis Ker Gawl has been traditionally used to treat heart diseases with a lack of scientific evidence. This study reports for the first time the anticoagulant effect of the aerial part of C. edulis. The aerial part of C. edulis was extracted with methanol and then fractionated with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. Three assays: prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and thrombin time (TT) were performed to evaluate the anticoagulant activity of various extracts on human blood samples. The results showed that the methanol extract and the ethyl acetate fraction significantly prolonged APTT and TT, suggesting their impact on coagulation factors involved in the intrinsic and common pathway of the coagulation cascade. The water fraction also significantly prolonged APTT compared to the negative control (p < 0.05). C. edulis could be a promising natural resource for finding novel antithrombotic agents and to develop supplementary products for treating and preventing thrombosis-related diseases. Further studies should be done to investigate new bioactive molecules from this interesting plant and to understand their mechanisms of antithrombotic action.
