This study was focused on the formulation and evaluation of taste-masked berberine chloride (BC) applied for oral suspension. In this research, stearic acid (SA) was utilized as a carrier which played a significant role as a barrier to prevent the release of drugs in the oral cavity. The results revealed that Eudragit EPO (EE) could be utilized as a channeling agent besides the taste masking characteristic. The optimal ratio of BC:SA:EE was 2:10:1. The microparticles were then mixed into ethanol containing EE and Aerosil. The dissolution profile of BC from microparticles showed the release of over 70% of BC content within 45 minutes. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) revealed the physical states of the system. The excipient-drug interactions were not detected on infrared spectroscopy (IR). Additionally, lipid-matrix microparticles had a palatable taste with high dissolution, and good flowability which can be adapted for oral suspension preparation.
