Five known alkaloids, lycorine (1), 2-O-acetyllycorine (2), (+)-vittatine (3), 8-demethyl-3-oxomaritidine (4), and (-)-maritinamine (5) were isolated from the Vietnamese medicinal plant Crinum viviparum (Lam.) R.Ansari & V.J.Nair. Their structures were identified by spectroscopic methods and by comparison with literature data. Except for lycorine, the remaining compounds were reported for the first time from Vietnamese C. viviparum. All five alkaloids were evaluated for nitric oxide (NO) suppression and cytotoxicity. Compounds 3 and 4 moderately inhibited NO production, while compounds 1, 2, and 4 showed cytotoxic activity against the HepG2 and LNCaP cell lines (IC50 = 7.02 – 72.25 μM). These results highlight C. viviparum as a promising source of bioactive alkaloids with potential anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties.
